CHAMPIONSHIP DECIDER

This weekend (6th/7th SEP) is the final round of the 2003 Victorian Championships and will be held down at the very fast seaside circuit at Phillip Island.

The Sports Sedan championship has been a cracker all year and will be decided on the weekend. Five competitors have the chance to be this years champion! With 100 points on offer the racing will as fast and furious.
The first two race’s of the weekend score 20 points for the win, 19 for second, 18 for third, and so on down to 1 point of twenth.

The main race on Sunday arvo is scored like this, 40 points for a win, 39 for second, 38 for third, and so on back to 1 point for finishing in fortieth place. A bonus 20 points is up for grabs if you can pull of a trifica of wins over the weekend!
So as you can see “it’s not over to the fat lady sings”

So who will be this years champion?

Rodney WOODS [ 235 points ] missed the first round at Calder but since then has driven well to score points, and is leading by 1 point as we go into this weekend. Don’t forget that Rodney won the last round, and that was here at Phillip Island! He must start favorite.

Michael ROBINSON [ 234 points ] is the sentimental favorite, winning back in 2000, and going so close last year. He has driven at his best all year and only needs a small amount of luck to overhaul the 1 point difference.

Stephen CRAIG [ 180 points ] will find it hard to keep up with the v8s at the Island in his rotary Gemini, but with many years of racing up his sleeve , he knows that strange things can and do happen!

Rod SMITH [ 180 points ] is not likely to front up after braking an engine, and Terry HAMILTON [ 178 POINTS ] is the only other, if only slim chance at wining the title.

Any one of the above plus Barry CASSIDY are in the race for second place and as many as nine blokes have a shot at third!
It’s great that with just one round to go that so many teams have a chance of winning or doing well in the best Championship in the country.

If you need to see SPORTS SEDAN racing at its closest and best, get to Phillip Island this weekend, you won’t be disappointed.

And www.sportssedan.com.au tip for a winner? I’ll let you know Sunday night.

SENTIMENTAL FAVORITE WINS

In an absolute cracker of a weekend of racing at Phillip Island, Michael ROBINSON has won his second Victorian State Championship.

The final race of the day is where the Championship was to be decided, with just 3 points between ROBINSON and WOODS it was a case of “first across the line, takes all”. The race saw four different leaders, but it was on lap 5 of eight that saw the championship decided when Rodney WOODS car rolled to halt on the front straight with a blown motor. Then when Michael ROBINSON had control of the race his motor blew as well, on the last lap! At the time of going to press, third place has not been decided as it also very close, Terry HAMILTON and Stephen CRAIG are fighting over that spot.

RAY AYTON

The club and the staff at sportssedan.com.au wish you a speedy recovery from your accident at Phillip Island the other week. Ray was knocked unconscious for about 20 minites when he lost control of a Porsche he was racing. The accident happened at Lucky Hights. A night in hospital just to make sure, and a very bent car, are the only trophy’s Ray got that weekend. We wish you the best and know that you will be racing with us real soon!

NATIONAL VICTORIANS

National championship Victorian competitors, Darren HOSSACK and Dean RANDLE did them selves proud at Winton a week or so back by running first and second. It was Darren’s first round win. He was second in heat one and won the second heat to win the day.

Dean run third in heat one and second in heat two to claim second for the day.
The other star for the day was Rodney WOODS, coming home with two sixth placing, for the day, to finish fifth on the day.
Next round- SANDOWN 13/14 SEPTEMBER.

VIC SPORTS SEDAN STAR TO DRIVE WITH FPR

Local Sports Sedan star Darren HOSSACK is set to make his V8 supercar return at the Sandown 500. Darren will be paired up with fellow Victorian racer Adam MACROW. The Pair have been named to drive the third FORD PERFORMAMCE RACING falcon. Darren has been named to do both Sandown and Bathurst.

DJR DUMP RICCIARDELLO

Sports sedan champion Tony RICCIARDELLO has been dumped by DJR as their Konica driver. First he was dumped from the enduro line up, but told he would do the 30 lap Konica race on Saturday. Now it seems that this is not the case, and the two partys have gone there own ways.

STOP PRESS!

Sports Sedan champion Tony RICCIARDELLO will race at SANDOWN / BATHURST after all. In a last minite deal he will partner Dale BREDE in a VX Commodore
