AGM 2006

The month of November is AGM time. This is your chance as a member to elect in the committee for 2007.

If you wish to have a run on the 2007 committee all you need to do is get someone to nominate you! You must be a financial member to nominate, and financial to be on the committee. It’s that easy.

The committee meet’s once a month and has the responsibly for the running of the club. You will make decisions on all types of subjects, such as the Running of our race meeting, Club nights, Social events and so on.

The AGM will be held at BELLS HOTEL in Sth MELBOURNE on Wednesday 15th NOVEMBER. A 7.45pm start will get the club meeting side of this over with before we head in for the AGM.

Good luck to all

2006 ASSA (Vic) dinner presentation

Due to a lack of interest this year’s dinner has been cancelled.

Now that I have your attention, please don’t call me, or Annie, or anyone on the committee.

It has not really been cancelled, just moved to a new time of the year. We the 2006 committee have decided that we should try something new. Instead of having our Presentation Dinner in the busy month of December, we have moved it to early next year,

SATURDAY FEBUARY 3RD 2007

And a new venue has just been booked, can’t say much on the new venue other than it floats and don’t be late because it wont wait for you. The cost (per head) will be around the same as it has been in past years, bookings will be a must!

Dinner ship

We the committee thought long and hard about this decision, but felt that a change was needed to spice things up. So instead of being a closure on the season, this event will mark the opening of a new Championship Year.

This event promises to be a ripper, so please join myself and the committee as we celebrate the racing year of 2006, book a table for your crew as we celebrate the winners and Champions of 2006, then cheer on the Championship year of 2007.

I know I’ll see you there

Vale Peter Brock

Brock at Sandown

All of us in Australian Motorsport will have our own stories to tell about Peter Brock.

How could we not? After all, he was actively involved in our sport for nearly four decades.

But we in the Sports Sedan movement can probably connect with him a little bit more than most.

Back in the late 60s there were quite a few of us running “Sports/Racing - Closed” cars. And several of us got involved to the extent that “Sports Sedans” eventually became recognised as an independent category by CAMS. One of those pioneers was Peter Brock. His Austin A30, affectionately known as “The Ant”, combined with Peter’s obvious talent, became one of the higher profile packages in our class.

Our Association was born at a meeting convened at the Light Car Club of Australia in August 1970. Peter Brock was at that meeting which shaped our future. He was duly elected to the inaugural Committee.

His passing will leave a huge hole, not only in our chosen sport, but in the over-all Australian psyche. God Speed “P13”.

BBQ night

July 2006 BBQ map

This month we have decided instead of the guest speaker coming to us, we would go to them!

MERIDIAN MOTORSPORT is down in Moorabbin, and has invited us down for a BBQ and a tour around their shop. They are a Motorsport retail outlet with a workshop. It’s a one stop race shop. It’s a 6.30pm start for the BBQ followed by a real quick meeting.

The MERIDIAN MOTORSPORT TOUR will start around 7.15pm.

Sorry for the early start but the staff are staying back just for us, so please if you can, get down for another informative night.

Ps. this is a BYO grog event! food & soft drink provided.

GUEST SPEAKER

Sports Sedan Members,

Just a quick reminder that we have a guest speaker this month for our club meeting. Dean Sammut is from the John Bowe Institute of Driving and is coming along to chat about the things that he does. He will also be chatting about the OPEN PRACTICE DAYS that are held on Sundays out at Calder.

Please be early as we will be starting the meeting at 8.00pm sharp. If you are heading in for a meal please get there early so you order and eat and you can eat in the meeting room if you please. I will be showing a DVD from around 7.00pm.

See you all at Bells

AUDI TRIUMPHS WITH TDI POWER AT LE MANS

audi

AUDI AG has written an important chapter in the history of motor racing with its historic triumph in the Le Mans 24 Hour race. The new Audi R10 TDI was the first diesel car to win arguably the toughest car race in the world. In front of a record crowd of 235,000 spectators, Frank Biela ( Germany ), Emanuele Pirro ( Italy ) and Marco Werner ( Germany ) clinched the sixth and most important Le Mans win for Audi so far. Dindo Capello ( Italy ), Tom Kristensen ( Denmark ) and Allan McNish ( Scotland ) also achieved a podium in finishing third overall.

That this target was extremely ambitious but in no way unrealistic, was proven by Audi in March when the new R10 TDI won the 12-hour race at Sebring (USA) on its race début – an impressive demonstration of Audi TDI Power. And all this less than four months after the very first exploratory laps made by the revolutionary Diesel sportscar.

Audi has already won the 24 Hours of Le Mans five times with the R8. If one includes the Bentley victory during the 2003 season with the Speed 8, in which an Audi Sport developed TFSI engine propelled that car, then Audi technology is unbeaten in the world's most demanding car race since 2000.
